The Plastic Device, Long Island’s superannuated new wave/psychedelic/garage rock prodigies, are delighted to announce their first recordings in thirty-five years—the group’s first-ever vinyl release, produced by the legendary Mitch Easter. Seriously F-ING LEGEND!
In the spring of 2019, The Plastic Device convened to play a few New York–area shows in support of E Pluribus Plastic, an archival collection of their vintage work, then hightailed it to Fidelitorium Recordings in Kernersville, North Carolina, for a wild weekend session to render some hitherto-unrealized masterpieces for posterity.
Now, the fruit of this Herculean labor is available to music lovers everywhere: two titanic tunes, written by awkward teenagers and performed by awkward middle-aged men! With magnificent material aged to perfection like fine vintage wine, The Device’s rock-and-roll dream was made a rock-and-roll reality through the technical wizardry and uncanny good taste of producer Mitch Easter (Let’s Active, R.E.M., Game Theory, and so many more; c’mon, you know who Mitch Easter is). Available as an extremely limited edition 7-inch single, “Helen of Troy” will induce overwhelming euphoric love and blow your mind to itsy bitsy pieces. Then “Around the World” will crush those pieces into a fine dust, suspend the dust in a sweetly scented cloud of vapor, and permeate the atmosphere of this fallen planet with an ineffable sense of joy and fulfillment.
